At the age of 12, I went to a boarding school in Istanbul a couple of hundred
miles away from my family in Bursa and I was one of the lucky kids who owned
a small portable radio then. Perhaps that's when I started to develop an interest
in music and got exposed to foreign songs with French lyrics, etc. By 9th grade
I was deep into "Rock" and I liked it until the 90's when I discovered "Country",
with my favorite ever country singer being Patty Loveless.

On the Turkish side, I had always liked Baris Manco. During a trip back home in
the mid 80's, I was exposed to Sezen Aksu and she was one of my favorites for
quite a while but my latest is unquestionably Nese Karabocek!. Over a year ago
I stumbled into her "Bir Tanem" album on the Internet. I just loved it and bought
it while in Turkey last winter.  If anybody had ever told me that someday I would
listen to Nese Karabocek, I would have laughed but this one, in fact, turned out
to be the only album (of any kind of music) that I have since listened to so often
and so many dozens of times, without getting tired.   You can listen to all songs
in "Bir Tanem" and to many others of her older songs at the link given above.

As far as movies, I have rented many videos during the past years, especially in
winter months and at times when I had a cold, etc. but it has perhaps been over
10 years since I last walked into a movie theater.

And what about TV? I was already down to watching it only for a few hours per
month for the past several years but since about the middle of April,  I have not
even turned it on!  Stay tuned to find out about how long will I go without it...
